I. GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TEACHER CANDIDATES

Youngstown State University offers a wide variety of scholarships for incoming freshmen, transfer students and current students. Undergraduate students who are majoring in programs related to teacher licensure may apply for these university level scholarships.

II. SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TEACHER CANDIDATES

PARTIAL LIST: Below is a partial list of scholarships available for undergraduate Teacher Education majors. Where possible, the actual scholarship application form(s) is included.

SOURCES: The scholarships listed below include those that come from YSU (either through the YSU Foundation, University Development, or Financial Aid and Scholarships) and those that come from outside sources and need to be filed directly with those organizations and not returned to the Beeghly College of Education.

DEADLINES: Many of these scholarships have different deadlines because the scholarship deadlines are determined by the sponsoring organizations, not by YSU. Please note the deadlines and take this into account when submitting an inquiry or the actual application itself.

OCTOBER DEADLINES

Mahoning Retired Teachers Association - Fleming Scholarship - Open to Mahoning County residents exclusively. Must be a graduate of a High School in Mahoning County and be a Senior.

NOVEMBER DEADLINES

Catholic Collegiate Association Scholarship - Must write a short essay on why you should be awarded the Catholic Collegiate Scholarship and have a Catholic Collegiate Sponsor.

FEBRUARY DEADLINES

The Youngstown Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc. - Must be a female student enrolled in the Beeghly College of Education.

Downtown Lions Club Scholarship - Must be a full-time junior or senior enrolled in Special Education.

Helen Edward Stoll Scholarship - Must be an education major and write an essay stating philosophy in teaching Learning Disabled in an inclusive classroom.

Edward F. Bradish Memorial Scholarship - Must be a full-time female student majoring in education.

Eugene A. Capone Memorial Scholarship - Must be a child of an elementary or secondary school teacher in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana Counties.

MARCH DEADLINES

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Scholarship - Must be a resident of Ohio and a junior enrolled full-time in a teacher licensure program with senior status in the fall..

Delta Kappa Gamma (Alpha Delta State) Esther H. Strickland Student Teaching Grant - Student applies for this grant to be used the following year to support pre-service teaching experience.

Delta Kappa Gamma (Mu Chapter) Scholarship - Must be a junior enrolled full-time in the teacher education licensure program.

MAY DEADLINES

Florence Amon Scholarship - Must be a full time student majoring in education and demonstrate need.

Medina County Retired Teachers Scholarship - Must be a currently enrolled full time college student and a graduate from a Medina County high school.

Thomas M. and Evelyn V. Stevens Scholarship - Must be a current YSU education major or be a high school senior from a school located in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana Counties.

William J. Fitzsimons Scholarship - Must be a current YSU education major or be a high school senior from a school located in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana Counties.

Anjulie Fitzsimons Keegan Scholarship - Must be a current YSU education major or be a high school senior from a school located in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana Counties.

Bartley and Sarah Doyle Scholarship - Based on seeking a degree in education with career goals related to the importance of reaching and educating young minds.

Margaret Davis Scholarship - Must be a graduate of Youngstown City Schools or be a dependent of an Youngstown Education Association (YEA) member.

Sarah Throop Scholarship - Awarded to a junior or senior, majoring in early or middle childhood education, with a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA.

McCullough Williams Jr. Scholarship - Awarded to an African-American male student enrolled in the Beeghly College of Education, who is a resident from the five county areas of Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull Counties in Ohio, and  Lawrence and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania, and must also be majoring in early, middle or secondary education and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
